An intimate moment of death and new life
Adrian Burholt recalls a moment of sadness and joy, lament and celebration
IT IS SOMETIMES HARD TO SEE any light in hard and difficult times, but a recent experience reminded me that the light is trying to shine, even when there are clear life-altering endings in sight.
This story is about an eighty-two-year-old lady who had survived a major stroke at the age of forty-eight, but who had gone on, with some severe disabilities, to fully engage with life. She became an advocate for other people with physical disabilities and strokes, and was instrumental in changing local planning laws to make life easier for them. She was, by all accounts, a force for good - and notto be messed with.
