AS I SIT in church, listening to the Gospel reading, I start seeing the story in fabric. The lions from the den in soft browns with black noses. The rainbow over the Ark in brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows against a violet sky. The dark blue fabric of nighttime over Bethlehem on the evening Jesus was born… and then I feel the unmistakable nudge of my husband, a gentle but firm reminder that my daydreams should probably wait until after the service ended.
