HE LETTER FILLED ME WITH horror, fear and most of all, determination.

 

I was standing in the hallway of the house I shared with seven housemates, beneath a framed black and white poster of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's, with the letter in my hand. I had waited over a month for an official response from the organisation, and it had finally arrived along with my phone bill and advertisements for local pizzerias. I read and re-read the short, curt paragraphs printed on cream paper as if I could change their meaning by staring at them.
