THE DOUBLE-HEIGHT MAIN DOOR of Col·legi Santa Teresa in Barcelona is framed by a soaring catenary arch that is the trademark of its architect, Antoni Gaudí. Unusually, it has no handle. That is not so unusual nowadays when, thanks to sensors, doors simply slide or swing back when approached. Yet no such technology existed in 1890 when he was working on this convent and school in the Sant Gervasi area of the city.
