WHEN I MOVED TO THE SMALL Wiltshire town of Bradford on Avon, I soon found two buildings that seemed to invite me in for quiet reflection. One is St Lawrence, a small church of Saxon origin near the town bridge. It was ‘refound’ in Victorian times after many years hiding amongst a shamble of later buildings. Now restored, it is simply decorated and furnished with a few rows of chairs, where during daylight hours anyone can sit in restful stillness.
