Changing landscapes
Susan Cross
eloquently describes
the interrelationship
between humanity
and the land
COME FROM THE OPEN ARABLE LANDSCAPE of west Norfolk. Here I came to know the world. It is still my place of grounding, deep relationship, inspiration and refuge.
When I walk these fields, I am connected. Here I fished for sticklebacks, caught lizards, hammered flints, befriended birds and discovered wild plants. I learned the life skills of delight in nature, close looking, solitude, silence, watching, waiting, listening. This landscape of my roots still speaks to me and shows me my place in the world.
