Talking justice: loving as Jesus loved

Everton McLeod candidly calls on us all to address our prejudices and live as Jesus did

Talking justice: loving as Jesus loved

I WAS BORN IN LONDON from West Indian parents who came to England in 1956 from Jamaica. They came looking for a better life.

I have been married to Jeanette for 43 years. We have three married children and five grandchildren. I was a radiographer for 11 years, then a full-time Church of England minister for 28 years and, following early retirement, I now work part time in retail.

As you can see from my picture, I am black. I am not ashamed to say that, because that is who I am and who God created me to be. That said, being black is not the most important thing about me – it’s being a Christian, a child of God and how I live that out.
Too often we have seen differences as a problem and as a consequence end up treating other people in a way which is not honouring to God. Black Lives Matter – but I would want to add that, from a biblical perspective, it is surely, Every Life Matters. We are all equal under God. It does not mean we are the same, but we all matter and are special to God.
