Boaters’ Christian Fellowship

Jan Halford shares the Good News in brief encounters on the inland waterways

Boaters’ Christian Fellowship JOHN HALFORD

“WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR HOLIDAY?” When asked this my husband and I get surprised reactions as we list places such as Birmingham, Huddersfield or Stoke-on-Trent. The reason for our less than exotic choices is that, for about six months each year, we travel around the inland waterways system on our narrow boat. There is, however, much more to our holidays than navigating canals, enjoying beautiful scenery and visiting interesting places. We are active members of the Boaters’ Christian Fellowship (BCF), a non-denominational organisation with about 600 members. BCF has three aims: to encourage members to worship God on the waterways; to facilitate fellowship with other Christian boaters; to witness to others by helping people in need and sharing the gospel. BCF takes part in boating events and is a Christian presence in a secular environment.
