It is no secret that our senses help us to understand and experience our world; this can be positive and negative, affecting our mood and behaviours. I remember seeing the soothing effect on my sister of a piece of music listened to regularly during pregnancy. I have also experienced my great aunt, who had dementia, being amazingly brought back to the present by the recognition of my grandmother’s perfume.
