Freerice

Can an online trivia game solve global hunger?

Nina Vallente describes an innovative and educational way of feeding the hungry

Freerice

YES, IT CAN! On Freerice, an online educational trivia game, every right answer generates the equivalent of ten grains of rice as a donation to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

In 2007, an American computer scientist named John Breen created Freerice as a way to help his son study for his Standard Assessment Test (SAT). He created a game with two objectives: to teach vocabulary through trivia questions and to help tackle world hunger. Every time players answer a question correctly, they see an advert, which then triggers a financial donation.

God beyond all names
