HOW DO YOU CHOOSE which books to take with you on holiday?
There might be something a friend has recommended, or something you saw in bookshop. Maybe you want to read an old favourite again. Different books capture different moods, give us different experiences, and enrich us (or perhaps diminish us) in different ways. From one perspective it is a free choice; from another, it is a choice never made in a vacuum, always a result of personal experiences and preferences – freedom from which might, ironically, be a form of imprisonment.
