BRITAIN IS HOME to thousands of victims of modern slavery. Since 2016, Ella’s has run a safe house in east London, housing women recovering from experiences of trafficking and/or sexual exploitation. Depending on the individual cases, women stay from one year to 18 months.

We are often asked how we avoid becoming overwhelmed by the scale of the problem and the heartbreaking stories we hear. At times, the level of evil perpetrated against an individual seems too devastating to comprehend. And yet, time and again, we see the darkness punctuated with light.
