To Heal and Not to Hurt: A fresh approach to safeguarding in Church

Rosie Harper and Alan Wilson | Darton, Longman & Todd Ltd (2019)

To Heal and Not to Hurt: A fresh approach to safeguarding in Church

Between them, Rosie Harper and Alan Wilson have 70 years of pastoral ministry. In that time, they have become aware and extremely concerned about the numerous incidents of abuse – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

The book addresses this difficult subject. There are fifteen narratives of those who have been at the receiving end of all types of abuse. The book’s authors look at the abuse of power and how to deal with these, without getting into an escalating cycle of naming and blaming. They also look at how the Bible can be wrongly used in excusing abuse. It is an uncomfortable but challenging read. It looks at what lessons we can learn from the past and how we stop this occurring in the future.
