Jenny Bridgman reflects on an evocative verse in the Psalms

IWAS IN A RUSH. As I hurried past the local park, a solitary leaf danced in front of my face, falling to the ground. For a fleeting moment, my mind was on that leaf: on the poise and grace that it showed in death; on its unhurried descent into decay and, if leaves could express feeling, on its sheer trust and submission to something beyond itself. What I could have learned from that leaf, if I had only paused to allow these thoughts to dwell fully within me! But my step didn’t slow, and my busy mind hurried away.
