EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, I find myself singing “O Cristo Redentor, braços abertos sobre a Guanabara...” (Christ the Redeemer, open arms over the Guanabara), a wonderful song by Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of Bossa Nova. The singer is referring to the fabulous statue that has become a symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro, my
hometown in Brazil.
