IN 1969, NEIL ARMSTRONG stepped down from the ladder of his lunar module and implanted the first human footprint on the surface of the Moon. Half a century later, with no weather to erode it, nor other creatures’ prints to obscure it, the footprint is still there. A fitting reminder that our actions often have lasting consequences for the  planet on which we tread.
