Family. They might be infuriating, frustrating and irritating. Or lovable, supportive and nurturing. More likely they are mix of all these attributes. But traditionally and historically they have been dependable.
Extended family lived cheek-by-jowl, providing childcare, society, practical help in times of hardship and ill-health. The young looking after the very old and infirm; the old on hand to take care of the very young.
